A sociological view on the thumbalizr launch

weltkartenb.jpgThe launch of this product made a good example for the worldwide user-contacts.

First we wrote a german press-release and sent it to three pr-portals in the german-speaking area. Additionaly we posted a small article in the thumbalizr blog about the API-feature.

It was very clear that the press release caught the first attention to editors and german blogs. But on the second day the whole thing went into a new direction: English-speaking blogs were writing articles about us - and then it went off like a hive. Other blogs wrote about us and the logfiles told us that we made it to North America (California in special). This caught the attention of first digg.com and then techcrunch.com. At this moment the old server was under heavy use so that the site went horribly slow. It can’t get worse? It can! :-)
The next morning many spanish-speaking blogs reported on us and we had many users from brasil and argentina on our site. This made the server go fully down, so we decided to push the service by installing a new, a faster one.

In the meantime our world-tour reached canada from where it jumps over to europe to france.
Due to the fact that many spanish-speaking-blogs reported on us a second wave goes to spain and italy.

So we were in europe again…
After the mediterranian countries the hive went to scandinavia and eastern-europe.
Next step was russia and then asia and india.

Result after 2 weeks of running this service that we had visisters from 138 countries, made more than 120.00 thumbs or screenshots and made contact to a bunch of cool users out there :-)
